NO WiFi??

knock on wood.....

Hopefully this won't happen since our Chromebook based instruction depends entirely on good Wifi.

IF, however, you have a glitch and the wifi doesn't seem to work, try the following:

One device not connecting

Step 1

Click the WiFi signal on the chromebook dock and check to see if the Chromebook is connected to LPS (it might also say LPSGuest if there are issues).

Step 2

Click on the Network listing and toggle the Wifi OFF and then ON.  The Chromebook -- if it can connect -- should default to LPS and show a STRONG signal.

I do have some loaner chromebooks on the counter by the cupboards.  If it's one device -- feel free to grab one and see if the student can log on to that device and gain access for the remainder of the class.

Classroom or building outage

If you feel that it is a wider issue -- call the office and see if there is a notification from LPS about an issue -- or call help desk (dial 1735) and see if they have advice.

UNPLUGGED IDEAS

These printables are located on the counter next to the 'loaner' chromebooks.  There are also pencils and crayons for students to use, as well.

Draw an Algorithm

Have students select a task and illustrate the steps to complete it. (Brush teeth, wash hands, make food, etc)

Color Sheets

Robots, Computer Science, and Internet Safety Coloring Sheets

Step-by-Step

Grab a pencil and follow each step to draw some animals and insects.

BOOKS -- There are a selection of books on the back counter, as well.  Feel free to grab one or two and read them to the class (K-2).  You could also open the door and ask Mrs. Shaddick (Librarian) for a quick book to read to the younger grades if you are in a pinch.

Ipad options

Zoombini's

All students grade 2 - 5 have been exposed to this computational thinking game.  It is not dependent on WIFI and should be a viable activity for students when systems are down. This app is found in the iPad dock (bottom of the screen).

Scratch Jr

This would be a good option for students in Grades K and 1.  They have had several lessons using this program -- but not a lot of time to just "create".  Encourage them to create scenes with more than one character, a background, and code for each character.  This app is found in the iPad dock (bottom of the screen).
