Marilyn Murphy - Bilingual Instructional Coach

Beginning-2022

I have been so fortunate to be a part of building this forward thinking initiative since it's inception. We have moved from beginning the DLI program in PK/K the first year to promoting the first cohort through 5th grade. They will be moving on to middle school for the 22-23 school year. Both students and teachers have built capacity in language and culture. Wildcat families have been enhanced by having bilingual, biliterate and bicultural children who will have broader opportunities in life. #wildcatDLIforever

Hello! I was born and raised in Gainesville, Georgia. I attended the University of North Georgia in Dahlonega for my Undergraduate degree of a B.A. in Spanish Language and Literature. After traveling to Spain my second year of University, I knew I wanted to work with the Spanish language! Directly after graduating from UNG I started attending the University of Georgia to pursue a Master's in Arts of Teaching in World Language Education. During my time at UGA I had the opportunity to come to Oglethorpe Ave. Elementary School and work with Kindergarten students. I came to find that I loved working with younger students and the Dual Language Immersion program was something I definitely wanted to be involved in. Even though this is my first year both teaching, and in the DLI program, I am very excited to be a part of this community!

Sra. Marín

Kindergarten

Hi. I was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico. I am the 3rd child out of five. I have two older brothers and two younger twin sisters. At the age of seven, my family moved to Orlando, Fl and so I was able to grow up very close to Mickey Mouse and his World. I graduated high school in May of 1997. I moved to Georgia in 2003 and met my wonderful husband We married in December of 2004. We now have 3 adorable children, Wilmer who is 8, Natalia and Abel who are 5 year old twins. In 2005, I obtained a certification in office administration from Northeast Georgia Community College. I realized that my passion is and has always been in teaching. I started Piedmont College in 2007 and graduated in May of 2015 with my Bachelors in Early Childhood Education. This is my 3rd year at Oglethorpe, but my 2nd year as a DLI Teacher. I love what I do and love the students. I believe DLI is a wonderful opportunity for students to thrive in education while learning two languages. I am proud to be a part of this school and community.
