I was born in Canton, Ohio, the middle of five children. At the age of 12, my siblings and I were orphaned; the five of us moved in with an aunt and uncle who eventually moved us to Kissimmee, Florida right as Disney World was getting started. Besides being a freelance newspaper writer, the only career I’ve ever really known is teaching, which I’ve done for the last 41 years, first in Florida, then in Connecticut, and finally (or so I think) here in Georgia. Most of my teaching has been on the high school level: English, speech, history, and Spanish. In 2006 I moved to Georgia to volunteer at a Hispanic Mission. I came down here without a job but was fortunate to become a paraprofessional at Oglethorpe that summer, a job I held until December 2009 when I took over a third-grade classroom. In 2013, I started teaching second grade, a position I’ve held until the present. DLI gives me an incredible opportunity to grow as an educator. I understand what it is to be a language learner from my six visits to Peru where I was immersed in the language and the culture. DLI offers students this same immersion experience as they learn two languages in a safe and enriching environment.

Hola! I was born in Edinburg, Texas. I am the middle child, one older brother and one younger sister. My family moved to Georgia when I was only 6 months old and we grew up in the same house since. I grew up in Snellville and attended Gwinnett County Public Schools. Inspired by my 2nd grade teacher, I always knew what I wanted to be when I grew up. I graduated High School in 2012 and was the first in my family to attend college. I attended Georgia Perimeter my first 2 years and then transferred to Georgia Gwinnett College from which I graduated in December of 2016. Two days after graduating, I got married! My husband, Nehemias, and I recently had a wonderful little boy in January 2018, we named him Abraham. I am a first year teacher and I’m glad I began in DLI. The experience thus far has been exceptional! I love learning with my sweet kiddos every day. Never a dull moment! I am proud to be a part of Oglethorpe Avenue and its community.
