Definitions

ABT 

An ABT is an Absence By Tardy. It registers as a full class period unexcused absence. A student is given an ABT when they are absent from class for an unexcused reason for more than 15 minutes. 

Excused Absence

A student's absence is excused if it is due to a school sponsored event, including field trips, club events, and athletic events. 

Absences are also excused when it is for a reason approved by the Georgia Department of Education and if the excused absence form has been submitted by a parent/guardian within 10 days of the absence. More information is provided in the Excused Absences section of this website.

Skipping Class

Skipping is defined as any absence from class that is not authorized by the school.  This includes students who do not attend class, who refuse to go to class, or who leave class without permission. Once on campus, students are not permitted to leave without signing out in the Main Office.  Students who skip will be assigned to In-School Suspension. Any student out of an assigned area without a legitimate pass is considered to be skipping class. Possible actions for repeated violations include:


Skipping class will be recorded as an unexcused absence.

Tardy

Students are given a tardy if they enter class without a pass after the designated start time. Tardies are listed on on students' progress reports and final report cards. If they are more than 15 minutes late due to an unexused reason, they will receive an ABT (Absence by Tardy). The CCHS bell schedule can be found on the school's website here.

Student parking passes will be suspended for excessive tardies to first block.

Unexcused Absence

An absence is unexcused if a student is absent from class for a reason not approved by the school or if an excuse note has not been submitted within 10 days of the absence. Unexcused absences are listed on students' progress reports and final report cards. Students who skip class will be given an unexcused absence and may be subject to disciplinary consequences.
