What is a Family Resource Center?

Family Resource Centers were created as part of the Kentucky Education Reform Act, or KERA, in 1990 and are funded by money from the State in the form of a grant.

The purpose of the Centers, as found in the FRYSC Administrators’ Guidebook, is to enhance students’ abilities to succeed in school by:  (1) developing and sustaining partnerships that promote early learning and successful transition into school, (2) academic achievement, and (3) graduation and transition into adult life.

Schools must qualify to receive a Center based on a minimum of 20% of families qualifying for free and reduced lunch.

Family Resource Center Staff work with students and families to meet needs that affect the learning process in the classroom.  This is done by providing services in several ways including providing services at the Center, in the school, and by linking families to agencies in the communities.

Who is served by the Family Resource Center?

All children and their families who attend Conkwright Elementary School can benefit from services of the FRC. Surveys are sent our periodically to families in order to assess the needs of Conkwright families.  Programs and activities are generally intended for ALL Conkwright students.
