• Apply to Girls Who Code’s Virtual Summer Immersion Program (SIP) for an unforgettable summer experience! During this FREE 2-week virtual program, you'll learn the computer science skills you need to make an impact, get an inside look into the tech field, and join a supportive lifelong sisterhood — all while being virtually hosted by influential companies, like Twitter, AT&T, Bank of America, Walmart, and more.

• Current 9th -11th-grade girls and non-binary students are eligible to apply. SIP is 100% free and need-based stipends of up to $300 are available for those who qualify. Low tech? No tech? No problem! Girls Who Code is there to support you!

• Apply here before the early acceptance deadline in mid-February and remember to affiliate with us, Clackamas Education Service District, as your Community Partner on your application to receive priority consideration.

• Join the Girls Who Code Application Party! Sign up to attend the SIP Application Party with Candice Dickens-Russell from GWC on February 8th at 3:30pm PST. Join a Girls Who Code staff member and other students to help start your application and ask any questions!

The 17th annual NW Youth Careers Expo will take place as a virtual event, allowing high school students to engage with employers and postsecondary partners for community-based career exploration. We’re using a dynamic conferencing tool that allows attendees to connect within a visually rich Exhibit Hall and Auditorium.

What to expect: The Expo will feature a virtual Exhibit Hall where students and educators can “visit” booths to learn about different organizations. Exhibitors can share materials and videos about their workplace, and they can host chats to answer questions. In the virtual Auditorium, students can hear Career Talks and engage with professionals. Students can also participate in a scavenger hunt for a chance to win prizes.

Timing: The official Expo will be “live” over two afternoons, with hosted exhibitor booths, career speakers, and mock interview opportunities. Students and educators will have full access to the Expo, including recorded talks and booth materials, for 30 days after the event.

More about the Expo: The annual Careers Expo is the Northwest’s premier career-exploration experience. In a typical year, we welcome about 6,500 students from 75+ high schools in Oregon and Southwest Washington to the Oregon Convention Center, as well as 195+ exhibitors representing the state's leading employers and postsecondary partners.

The Careers Expo shows students the region's amazing diversity of career opportunities, along with the skills and education needed for those jobs. The typical Expo includes hands-on learning, demonstrations, mock interviews, career workshops and the chance to talk directly with professionals about college-and-career options.

A Inspire Virtual is a career exploration fair, bringing together the business community and local schools, and designed to help launch students into their futures: high school, college, and careers beyond. JA Inspire Virtual is adaptable for in-class or remote learning, and consists of three segments:

1) Student driven lessons designed to help students discover their career strengths and interests. Lessons include our FREE Build Your Future app (Apple, Android) and access to the JA Digital Career Workbook (allows students to take a personality quiz and explore careers suited to their unique talents and values).

2) Access to our vFairs online interactive platform used to host the JA Inspire Virtual Career Exploration Fair. Students will have the ability to attend prerecorded webinars and presentations, as well as explore and collect information from career, job, and business booths organized by career clusters.

3) Post event debrief and unlimited access to the virtual platform from March – June.

JA Finance Park comprises a curriculum and a virtual simulation, helping students in grades 7–12 build a foundation on which they can make intelligent financial decisions that last a lifetime, including decisions related to income, expenses, savings, and credit.

JA Finance Park is also adaptable for in-class or remote learning, and consists of three segments:

1) The curriculum portion of the program includes multiple lessons on personal financial literacy, budgeting and career exploration. This curriculum includes student driven lessons or teacher led lessons. The topics and concepts track closely with national financial literacy standards and are intended to prompt students to begin thinking about and planning for their financial future.

2) Access to our virtual simulation that can be completed at home or in the classroom. During the simulation, students assume fictional adult roles denoting career, marital status, income level and family size. Students move business to business within the virtual world to make real-life budget decisions about things such as groceries, housing, health care, transportation, utilities and savings. This simulation allows students to put in to action what they have learned in the classroom as they create a balanced household budget.

3) Post program debrief and access-to-access to the JA Digital Career Workbook (allows students to take a personality quiz and explore careers suited to their unique talents and values).

Post-Secondary Presentation-Meet Patrick, Dan and Michael from PCC’s Theatre Program. The Portland Community College Theatre Arts has presented over 70 fully staged productions since 1979 ranging across the dramatic, comic, and musical genres. Most of our shows are now mounted in the Performing Arts Center (PAC), a state-of-the-art theatre on the Sylvania campus. Because the PAC also serves as a rental facility, we can hire our students to crew rental productions, thereby giving them necessary and practical on-the-job training with the help of our talented faculty.
