Supporting Schools to Empower Children and Young People in Leading Healthy Lives
We are committed to working with schools and all stakeholders to ensure that children and young people have the knowledge and skills they need to make informed decisions and lead healthy lives. Through collaborative efforts and tailored educational activities, we aim to support schools in achieving this goal.
We partner with a range of organisations and professionals to enhance school-based learning and promote well-being:
NHS Collaboration: Pilot Health and Wellbeing sessions integrated into English periods at Alloa Academy (June 2024).
Wasp Community Club: Delivering youth-focused sessions at Alloa Academy (August 2024).
Kooth Sessions: Workshops focused on body image, informed by Planet Youth data.
Celebrating Volunteering: We continue to support and promote volunteer contributions, such as through the Saltire Awards.
We actively work with schools to contextualise relevant data from the Planet Youth programme across the curriculum, including within Personal and Social Education (PSE) programmes.
We are dedicated to providing ongoing support for school events and initiatives, such as mental health weeks and other health-focused activities, ensuring that every opportunity is taken to equip young people with the skills for a healthy future.
Supporting Families in Clackmannanshire to Make Informed Health and Wellbeing Decisions
We are dedicated to helping families in Clackmannanshire make informed choices about the health and wellbeing of their children and young people. Through collaboration and community engagement, we provide parents and carers with the resources and support they need to promote healthy lifestyles.
We offer a range of resources and engagement opportunities to empower families:
Parent/Carer Resources: Distributing valuable information on risks and protective factors affecting children and young people’s health.
Awareness Events: Highlighting key health and wellbeing topics at parent/carer evenings and community-led events.
We work closely with partners to deliver sessions that raise awareness on crucial topics such as alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs (ATOD), and other relevant Planet Youth issues. Some examples include:
Whole Family Sessions in collaboration with Social Work, attend sessions delivered by partners including CLD, Connect Alloa, Play Alloa amongst others.
We maximise opportunities to connect with families through community events and partnerships:
Participating in events like the One Stop Shop and Partnership Fayre.
Signposting parents/carers to preventative activities, such as Community Around The School, Community Learning and Development Team, and Third Sector opportunities.
Supporting families by attending school events to raise awareness of health-related resources and services.
We collaborate with the Health Improvement Service to plan and deliver sessions for children, young people, and their families, focusing on enhancing overall wellbeing. Additionally, we work with the Lead Officer for Child Protection and partners to address community safety concerns that impact our families.
Understanding How Our Friends Influence Our Choices
We are committed to helping children, young people, and adults develop a deeper understanding of how friendships can impact their choices. Through collaboration with schools and community partners, we aim to raise awareness and provide tools for making informed decisions in peer-related situations.
We support schools, the Third Sector, and Community Learning and Development (CLD) to increase awareness of peer influence. Our efforts include attending parent/carer meetings at both primary and secondary schools to engage with families on this important topic.
We continue to enhance pre-existing initiatives and events that support this work, such as parent/carer support groups, and evidence-based parent/carer programmes, helping to promote a better understanding of the impact of peer relationships.
To further engage the community, we are developing both social media and physical poster campaigns, featuring a “Did You Know” series that is data-informed by our young people's voices and highlights the protective factors.
We are actively working with primary schools to co-design a 'Positive Peers' project. This initiative will create a sustainable unit for primary education, ensuring that the work done today continues to support children in the future.
In collaboration with MCR Pathways, we are piloting a befriending programme in one primary school. This programme aims to build positive peer relationships and foster environments where children can make healthy, informed decisions about their friendships.
Encouraging More Children, Young People, and Adults to Engage in Activities Across Clackmannanshire
We are dedicated to increasing participation in activities that benefit the health and well-being of children, young people, and adults in Clackmannanshire. By raising awareness of available opportunities and highlighting their benefits, we aim to ensure that everyone can engage in enriching activities within their community.
We provide families with information about a wide range of activities available across Clackmannanshire, connecting them to Family Wellbeing Partnership (FWP) enablers. We emphasise the positive impact that engaging in local activities can have on individuals’ health, wellbeing, and community connections.
To ensure all families are aware of the opportunities available, we are raising awareness of the free sessions provided for children, young people, and their families, helping them access valuable community activities.
In collaboration with the Family Centre, we trialled a series of sessions over the summer break. These pilot programmes will provide engaging activities for children, young people, and their families to participate in during the holiday period.
We are promoting platforms such as ALISS and Clacks Life through social media and marketing efforts to ensure that more families are aware of the diverse range of activities and support groups available within Clackmannanshire.
