Schedule:
Specials and Religion:
Your second graders will have a special every morning and afternoon. These include Art, Music, Physical Education, French, Library and Makerspace. In addition, the students will attend mass on Wednesday mornings and have a free-choice period at the end of the day on Friday. Religion will be taught by Meghan Cade three days a week.

Core Subjects:
Most school days will begin with handwriting practice followed by ELA. We will have a spelling pretest on Mondays and a graded spelling test on Fridays. This time slot will also be where the majority of our reading practice and comprehension is completed. Math is often the most frustrating subject for elementary students, so I plan on splitting math before and after the lunch/recess break. Some days after math we will continue with more ELA, especially when we are reading a short story or working on a writing assignment. To finish up the day we will work on either science or social studies. These two subjects each have five units. We will alternate between a science and social studies unit each lasting for a few weeks at a time.
These subjects are likely to be moved around if students need more time to comprehend a lesson, complete an assignment or in response to an atypical day or week. School event, holiday, field trip and snow day are all possible examples of this.
Snack, Lunch and Recess:
Snack will be every morning around 9:30 or 10:00am. I would like to have a set time for snack every day but unfortunately some of our specials interfere. Lunch is from 11:40 to 12:10 and recess begins at 12:10 and ends at 12:35. Students will need to be sent to school with a snack and may order lunch through the school or bring one from home.
