Homework:
Homework will be assigned on Monday - Thursday but not on Fridays or before a Holiday. There will be math homework most nights that corresponds to the unit we are currently working on. Spelling homework for Monday - Wednesday will be recurring assignments based on their spelling list that week. Thursdays will be for studying their spelling list for the weekly test on Fridays. Occasionally, students may have unfinished classwork to complete at home. Shortened weeks will have adjusted homework schedules.
Classroom Rules:
Treat others with respect.
Listen, both to your teachers and other students.
Follow directions.
Keep your hands feet and objects to yourself.
Raise your hand before speaking.
Ask for help when you need it.
Try your best!
Discipline:
For minor infractions in a singular school day the consequences will proceed as follows:
First time - Verbal warning / reminder is issued to the student.
Second time - Student loses privilege of participating in current class activity or using materials for that activity.
Third time - Students will be asked to relocate to another spot in the classroom where they are less likely to continue any misbehavior. If the class is at their desks the student will be moved to sit at the front of the class at Mr. Thomas' desk. If the class is not at their desk this student will be sent back to their desk. The student can rejoin the class when they feel they are ready to follow the classroom expectations.
Fourth time - Student will lose a few minutes of their recess, free choice time or another fitting activity where they can meet one on one with a teacher to discuss their misbehavior and formulate a plan to remedy it. Any additional infractions after this meeting or failure of the student to attempt to repair their behavior will result in a notice to that students parents.
Reoccurring infractions, even if they do not have four infractions in a single school day may also require a notice to parents.
The consequences and type of discipline will depend on severity of misconduct. Major infractions will involve a notice to the students parents, a discussion with the principle and potentially a Cardinal Reflection.
Classroom Jobs:
For second grade this year, we have a small list of classroom jobs that will rotate between students weekly. These jobs are set up to make everyone feel included and to help begin to cultivate a sense of responsibility and community within the classroom. Students will be given ample time to complete their jobs, if they are struggling to complete their job they should speak to Mr.Thomas to work out a game plan to get their jobs finished on time. Which may include finding a different time to do it, or having a buddy to help complete it. Every student will have a chance to do each job multiple times!
