View Graham's video Fractions: The Meaning, Equivalence, & Comparison from www.gfletchy.com
Capture thoughts that were affirmed about fractions as you watch, and capture new ideas in your CBB--Fractions Participant Handout.
By clicking on the slides to the left, you will gain insight into standards that have been selected for Alternate Assessment with a focus on fractions.
For more information on the KAS that have been selected for Alternate Assessment, visit the KY Academic Standards - Alternate Assessment Targets website. On the home page of this website, there are Progressions Documents for those selected standards.
The purpose of this next component is to deepen your understanding of and make connections between the High Leverage Practices for Special Education, and the Effective Mathematics Teaching Practices. You will explore three resources, taking a deeper dive into HLP 12 and MTP 1. After watching the video and reading the resources, you will synthesize your learning with the activity below called Putting It Together. As you work through this component, consider how an in depth knowledge of fractions progressions will support you in developing effective mathematics learning goals.
This High Leverage Practice in Special Education connects directly to thinking about progressions of learning.
Watch the video above from the High Leverage Practices website.
Note: This video is just over 17 minutes in length. You may wish to begin the video at the 4:30 mark for time purposes.Click on the link above to view a DRAFT of a document that highlights the 8 Mathematics Teaching Practices. The portion linked above reflects the work on MTP 1: Establishing mathematics goals to focus learning. This document provides some strategies for implementing MTP 1 in your classroom, with connections to various learning environments (in-person, virtual, asynchronous, etc.)
Now it is time to consider how all of these pieces--HLP 12, Learning Goals and Success Criteria, and MTP 1--all fit together with PROGRESSIONS.
How might knowledge of fractions progressions help you to write better learning goals for your math class?
In what ways could having established clear learning goals assist in the development or selection of activities/tasks for learning?
How could your learning in this section aid in the writing of annual goals for an IEP?
After reflecting on the questions above, click here for a Google Doc to record your thinking. Select any row and share your reflections.

When you are on the page, scroll down to Module 3: Clarifying and Sharing Learning Goals and Success Criteria. This module provides an opportunity to explore more deeply the what/why/how of learning goals and success criteria.
This research-based practice guide from What Works Clearinghouse shares 5 recommendations intended to help teachers improve students’ understanding of fractions. It includes examples of strategies for building a conceptual foundation through operations with fractions. It also looks ahead by highlighting ratios, rates, and proportions.
