Mental Health

Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make healthy choices in life. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood.

About US

The Wellness Center was made to be a space where our students can come in and not only learn to manage their emotions, but have a safe place to destress and regulate their emotions in order to be able to go back to class and be able to focus and produce at a high level.

Our Events

In our efforts to continue to break the mental health stigma around Suicide Awareness our Wellness Center hosted a Suicide Awareness-Prevention event during the month of September giving us an opportunity to shine a special, encouraging light on this topic that affects us all, and send a clear, hopeful message that help is available, and suicide can be prevented.

Research has shown that the presence of a beloved pet or therapy dog can help a person control daily anxiety symptoms, regulate emotional arousals, and imporve mood.

Lucy recently visited our school to spread kindness to our students and staff. Lucy is a volunteer therapy dog whose pawssion is to spread love and compawssion.  With her unique personality and gifted talent, Lucy brightened everyone's day during her visist.

Kindness Matters at WHS !

Our School Wellness Center collaborates with our school staff to promote affection and compassion as part of the ground values of students, and it was not an exception during kindnesses week celebration.

Acts of kindness can make the world a happier place for everyone. They can boost feelings of confidence, being in control, happiness and optimism.

The 3rd week of October was dedicated for students and staff to practice acts of kindness in order to promote a more positive school climate.

As part of our Wellness Center compromises with our students is to promote rehabilitation activities during lunch utilizing Play Therapy approach.

Our goal is to assist students build rapport with each other, as well as to build healthy social skills and coping skills with the purpose of guiding students to learn to unwind, relax, and take time out from pressures of daily chores to return back to class with a more positive, refreshed, and grounded attitude.

In our mission as a Wellness Center to increase cultural awareness, our team hosted a Dia de Los Muertos event to promote cultural competence practice in our school site including art, communication and social skills.

The event promoted how to be aware of one's own world view, encouraged participants to develop positive attitudes towards cultural differences, and resulted in participants gaining knowledge of different cultural practices and worldviews.

Students utilized their unique style and creativity to create skulls representing the Mexican tradition of Dia de los Muertos which is a remembrance day in which loved ones are being honored.
