Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Wellness Center?

The Wellness Center was made to be a space where our students can come in and not only learn to manage their emotions, but have a safe place to destress and regulate their emotions in order to be able to go back to class and be able to focus and produce at a high level.

What is Mental Health?

Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make healthy choices in life. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood.

What is Emotional Regulation?

Emotional Regulation is a term that describes the process of bringing our emotions back to baseline. Whether we are happy, sad, angry, stressed, or feeling any other emotion, too much of any emotion makes it hard for us to function at our best. When emotions are high it is hard to function and even think clearly, so emotional regulation is the process of calming those emotions without ignoring them and bringing them back to a healthy level.

How Common are Mental Illnesses in Adolescents?

Many adolescents experience positive mental health, but an estimated 49.5 percent of adolescents has had a mental health disorder at some point in their lives according to the CDC. The good news is that promoting positive mental health can prevent some problems. For young people who do have mental health disorders, early intervention and treatment can help lessen the impact on their lives.

Are there Resources for Parents/Caregivers?

The Wellness Center does not provide services to our students' parents, however we can refer parents/caregivers to our Case Management Program for assistance finding local resources including mental health services.

Will Other People Know Why I Visited the Wellness Center?

The Wellness Center is completely confidential. This means that what is talked about inside the Wellness Center will not be shared with anyone not helping you.

What is a Mandated Reporter?

All persons who are mandated reportes are required, by law, to report all known or suspected cases of child abuse or neglect. It is not the job of the mandated reported to determie whether the allegations are valid.
