Mission

• To support the educational program by developing a collection with access to a variety of print and electronic information resources.

• To promote literacy, including informational and digital literacies, support students in mastering academic standards, and encourage students to become lifelong learners.

• To integrate literature, instructional resources, critical thinking, digital citizenship, and educational technology into instruction and learning.

• To provide an accessible, inviting and well-organized facility and online presence for student and staff learning and collaboration.

Objective

The school library media center is the information and technology hub of the school.  The library media teacher will develop a collection of materials and resources that enrich and support the curriculum, and meet the diverse needs of students and staff. In addition to supporting the curriculum, the library media teacher and library staff are responsible for teaching students information literacy skills, establishing an atmosphere conducive to learning, creating an environment which encourages reading for pleasure, as well as collaborating with, and providing support to staff.

The school library media center is obligated to provide for a wide range of abilities and to respect the diversity of many differing points of view. To this end, principles must be placed above personal opinion and reason above prejudice in the selection of materials of the highest quality and appropriateness.
