Conclusion
The ceremony Jeets' Mek' or Hetzmek shows the Maya culture and their identity, providing roles and nurturing qualities to a child from an early age. A tradition symbolizing and providing the child with what they need to guide them in the future. In the early years, the ceremony was still practiced in certain areas in the hope of reviving this tradition as a way of showcasing the culture and beliefs of the Mayas.
In essence, we hope to provide further knowledge on the tradition from our research and our interviewees, who were also generous enough to give us a moment of their time. We were glad to have learned the deep spiritual meaning and how it shapes the child's identity. The idea is to lead them through the right path and the symbolism that each item and food holds. The importance of a godparent and the values they hold to provide the right guidance to the child.
