Colors and Symbolism
There are about 12 colors on the national flag of Belize, which is a record among the flags of other countries. There are six main colors: red, blue, green, white, yellow and brown. (Флагист, 2022)
The red horizontal stripes at the top and bottom of the flag represent the United Democratic Party (World Population Review, 2023). Red is also a symbol of vigor, strength, and unity.
The royal blue background represents the People's United Party and stands for hope and abundance (Britannica, 2024). Blue also symbolizes the Caribbean Sea that borders Belize.
The white circular disc in the center contains the coat of arms and represents peace and dignity (RJ Travel Agency, 2024). The white color also symbolizes purity and unity among the diverse population.
The Belize flag is one of the most intricately designed flags of any country in the world. The unique aspect of the Belize flag is that it is one of the few national flags that features human figures in its design. Only a handful of countries, including Belize and Malta, have this distinction (Britannica, 2024).
The flag's design follows a 2:3 proportion, which means that its width is two-thirds of its length. This proportion is common among many national flags around the world (Gettysburg Flag Works, 2023).
