Polio Campaign
A team from the Government of Sindh will visit the school to administer oral polio drops as well as vitamin A capsules to ALL students aged under 5 years present in the school. Parent wishing for dosage to be administrated to their wards must ensure their presence at the school all week as the polio team will visit unannounced. An excerpt from their circular to the schools is reproduced below:
"NO consent will be required from parents for the oral polio vaccine as it is mandatory for all under five years of children. In case of refusals, legal proceedings shall be initiated under THE SINDH IMMUNIZATION AND EPIDEMIC CONTROL ACT AUGUST 2023."

Grade 9
Students sitting the Aga Khan University Examination Board's grade 9 exams in 2025 are required to enroll with the board this month. Parents are required to please fill out the enrolment form here.. The school will transcribe the information so collected to the AKU portal.
The deadline for submitting the forms is 14 October 2024. A separate invoice will be issued in the coming week for the enrolment fee.

English Play at The Arts Council
Grades 9-10
As part of their English Literature curricuclum, grades 9 and 10 will proceed to The Arts Council to watch The 39 Steps. School van will depart from the school at 5.45 pm and will return by 10.00 pm. Students may join the school trip in full uniform and should bring a packed dinner to be consumed in the school van. A consent form may be filled here and the ticket price of Rs 500/- would be collected by the class-teacher.

Twenty students of German will participate in a four-hour "Climate-Neutral City" computer simulation game administered by the Goethe-Institut. The game will be organised during school hours. We have excited children in classes today. They are looking forward to enjoying the rain outside when they leave their classes. They would love to, and in every likelihood will, get wet at home time. Accordingly, the school has instructed them to leave their school bags in their classes. They will collect them when they return to school.

Munira Diwan, much loved Principal, retires
Munira Diwan, Principal at Civilizations Public School since 2011, officially retired from her post on 7 August 2025. She took a ceremonial school assembly on 15 August 2024 and visited the senior classes to speak to the children she advised and, at times, taught.
Munira Diwan joined the school after 25 years at Foundation Public School. There she rose from a class teacher to Director Academics for the multi-located system. In between, she worked as a math teacher, a math coordinator and a trainer. She was a much loved and long serving principal at Civilizations, training, mentoring and guiding both students and teachers and, foremost being an upright and forthright role model.
Munira Diwan's farewell dinner this weekend was attended by the school staff, certain of school students, alumni, ex-colleagues, friends and Munira's family. She will continue to teach part-time at the school, picking up English and/or Math in the middle school and coordinating the teaching of Mathematics.
Ali Khursheed Mustafa will take over as Principal in this 21st year at Civilizations.

Invoice
In response to a handful of requests received today, the school has resent August's invoice by SMS (it was sent earlier in the month). It is now payable by 21 August 2024. Parents are requested to please pay the invoices only through their bank mobile apps as this costs substantially less than paying by debit card.
In your banking application, please look for bill payment - Kuickpay. Please enter the 14 digit number displayed on the top right corner of your invoice (it is unique for each student). Once this payment is made, those in subsequent months will only take a couple of clicks.

Students in grade 6-9 of the Aga Khan Board stream may choose between German and Digital Art & Media course at the school. Those takin1g up German will be charged a separate monthly fee of Rs 2,000 applicable 12 months a year.

Internship in Germany
The school's alumnus, Mr. Zain Ahmed Siddiqui, recently started his internship with PIA Automation, Austria, a supplier to Mercedes Benz. Zain has completed his first year of studies in Engineering at Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt, Germany.
Zain completed his O Levels at Civilizations Public School in 2020.
Zain was placed at PIA Automation by Civilizations in Germany, where the school sourced the internship opportunity and helped Zain through the application and interview process. The interviewers at PIA Automation praised Zain's fluency in German, a language he trained in at the school.
Zain is one of several Civilizations alumni studying in Germany. Civilizations teaches German beyond the language requirements of universities in Germany.
Zain Siddiqui and Fatima Baig, two of the Civilizations alumni in Germany, will visit the school in February 2025 to speak with it's students and their parents.

Camel Ride

Notebooks
The school will supply notebooks to the students during the first week of school. Parents may choose not to receive this service from the school and may purchase notebooks from the market. Parents wishing not to purchase the notebooks may return the unopened packet to the school within one week of receipt. The school will refund any amount collected in the invoice for September 2024.
The cost of notebooks is expected to rise in line with the extraordinary inflation in the country and is expected to exceed Rs 6,000 for most classes. The school will collect this amount in two installments, Rs 3,000/- in July and the balance in September 2024.

German Olympiads
Civilizations won the German Olympiad this year after winning the German Spelling Bee in November 2023. Abdullah Farhan of 10C will now proceed to Germany to participate in the international Olympiad in July 2024.
Abdullah Farhan started with his German in grade 9 and has since excelled in it. He is also known to be a talented and diligent student. He made his mark in the school by playing the role of the beloved Butler in The Play that Goes Wrong that was performed in by the school in Spring of 2023.
The school will be rooting for Abdullah to win the Olympiad in Germany. We hope he has fun doing so.

Fareah Irfan of 10C is the second of the two students selected by Civlilizations Public School to proceed to the three-week youth camp in Germany. She will join students from all over the world for the camp and will attend classes to further her German language skills.

Youth Camp in Germany
Maryam Hasnat of grade 11C is one of the two students selected by Civlilizations Public School to proceed to the three-week youth camp in Germany. Maryam will join students from all over the world for the camp and will attend classes to further her German language skills.
Maryam was a late-comer to German, starting her lessons as late as grade 9. However, she built up her proficiency not only in the language but also shown bright in other subjects. She played a central role in "The Play that Goes Wrong" last year, and put in a memorable performance.
Boarding, lodging, training and travelling costs are free for Maryam Hasnat. The school wishes her well in the camp and in life.

Typhoid Vaccine
The Typhoid Vaccination Team will visit the school on 14 May 2024. All students present on the school premises will be innoculated. Parents wishing for their children to receive the innoculation must ensure attendance tomorrow.
The vaccination team visited the school unannounced today to innoculate some of the students. The school is lodging a protest with the relevant department.

Typhoid Vaccine
The Government of Sindh commenced their typhoid vaccine campaign this month. Under the campaign, shots will be administered to students up to 15 years of age. On a date to be advised to the school, the team will look to innoculate all students enrolled in the school.

Germany Universities
University education is free in Germany. Civilizations teaches German to its students so they can access these universities.
First year students Zain Siddiqui, Fatima Baig and Zain Anwer (all studied at Civilizations) are pictured above at Technical University of Munich at Ingolstadt, Germany. Siddiqui and Baig passed their O Levels from Civilizations in subjects including advanced languates (German, English and Urdu) and Additional Mathematics.
These students meet all of their living expenses from part time work. Fatima Baig is studying Artificial Intelligence and is a teaching assistant to her Mathematics professor. Zain Siddiqui is studying automation of motor vehicles and is working in retail sales. Zain Anwer is studying computer science. Civilizations is in direct contact with companies in Germany in order to arrange paid internship for these students in computer science, computer hardware development or in the automobile sector.

The Trip to Magnifiscience Centre
Grades 5 - 7
Students of grades 5-7 will proceed to Magnifiscience Centre and return by home time. Parents are requested to pack a lunch in the students' bags.
Grade 6 & 7 will proceed to the centre on Tuesday, 7 May while grade 5 will visit on Thursday, 9 May 2024.
The trip is not mandatory. Parents opting to send their children on the trip are requested to provide their consent here and to send Rs 800/- per child to their classteacher. Of this amount, Rs 700/- will be utilized for their tickets whereas the balance for related costs including, but not limited to, paying for classmates who cannot.
