Mini Off-Ice Strategy Seminars (50 minutes)

Winning curling games is not just about making shots; many games are won and lost on strategy. CVCC’s Curling Strategy Seminars are interactive opportunities to learn and ask questions in a group setting about curling strategy and tactics.

Cost: $20+HST for CVCC Members  or $30+HST for Non-Members of CVCC, maximum 10 participants

Strategy & Tactics 101 - Intro to Skipping

Every curler should understand how to call a curler game; it’s not just for skips. Intro to skipping will give you the basics of calling a good game, and improve your winning percentage.

Strategy & Tactics 201 - Game and End Planning

Learn when to be conservative and when to be aggressive. Protect a lead. Pursue a big score. Probe an unknown opponent. Understand different types of end strategies and when to use them to increase your chance of winning.

Strategy & Tactics 202 - Shot Management

Curling shots are all about line and weight. Learn team communication strategies to manage and execute your shots.

Strategy & Tactics 203 - Shot Selection

Learn when to draw and when to hit. Understand how weight choice for your hits can affect your shots. Pick the right shot at the right time to build your end.

Strategy & Tactics 301 - Shot Tolerance

Curling shots are missed. That’s a fact of the sport. The best teams often miss “the right way”.  Understanding shot tolerances will improve your game, and improve your chances that every rock you throw will be helpful in building your end.

Strategy & Tactics 302 - Reading Ice

Learn to read and map the ice. Understand how ice changes throughout a game and week to week. Discover the benefits of understanding ice maintenance schedules. Reading the ice faster than your opponent is a major advantage. 

Strategy & Tactics 401 - Curling Puzzles

As a group, we will dissect and discuss the house setup of various curling puzzles. Talk shot selection, options for end goals, and ways to put pressure on the opposing skip.

These sessions will be held in the Boardroom at City View Curling Club (50 Capilano Drive, Ottawa, ON).
