After reviewing months of input and feedback from downtown businesses, property owners, and the general public, the design team has made some final changes to the overall design of the public square.
We're gearing up to start construction on the streets downtown, and we wanted to share some information with you so you can plan accordingly. Starting on May 4th, West Washinton Street between Tompkins Street and the Drive-Thru for First Federal Bank will be closed, but you will still be able to access the Drive-Thru for the First Federal. Around the same time, you will start to see construction barrels shifting traffic on North and South Harrison Street, so that workers can begin utility work on the eastern half of the road. Harrison Street will not be closed, but traffic will be limited to one lane of traffic in each direction.
Many of the downtown merchants are providing delivery and curb-side carry-out, so please help these local businesses through these uncertain times by shopping local.
Please help us keep our workers safe by remembering to slow down and be alert as you are traveling through this construction area.
Work on the Parking Garage has been progressing exactly as planned, and you can now start to see the structure taking shape. If you drive by the construction site, you will now see concrete foundations that have been poured, with metal rebar which will be used to support the structural elements of the garage in the future. These pictures show what the job-site looks like in this stage of construction.
Construction equipment began moving dirt and preparing the site of the former Major Hospital today for construction. The site work should be finished by early Summer of 2020, so that the new lot owners may begin construction on their own homes.
