This graph shows the total amount of construction since 2018, these numbers show the amount of construction investment, primarily from the private sector, in each year. The graph also illustrates how major projects, like the POET Biorefineries in 2018, can drastically skew this indicator, like it did to industrial construction in 2018. The construction costs in industrial, commercial, and residential areas accounted for just over $46 million in 2023. PABD staff anticipate another healthy year of growth in all sectors, with a couple of industrial projects planned, as well as large residential projects including Summerfield, Stratford Place, Bear Run, Twelve Oaks, and Isabelle Farms.
The overall number of building permits (New Construction, Renovations, and Additions) decreased in 2023, as did commercial, but industrial remained the same. In 2023, the number of single-family home permits decreased roughly by 50%. This is in part do to The Mill being issued all of their permits at the end of 2022, dramatically increasing the number of permits.. from 2022, increasing from 84 in 2021 to 103 in 2022. The commercial permits only decreased by 6 permits total. Again industrial permits remained the same. PABD staff anticipates residential construction to remain steady in 2024 as builders continue to build the lots they already have permitted.
This graph shows all new permits for residential, commercial, and industrial construction. However, it only measures new residential construction for single-family development. The chart below includes residential remodels and additions in comparison to new residential construction. In addition to these single family homes, there were 13 mobile homes constructed in 2023.
This map shows all of the building permits for new construction projects issued in 2023 divided into Residential, Commercial or Industrial.
