Week 4 - Gesture Drawing, Portraits and Identity Shields

Kindergarten started self portraits this week. We emphasized noticing shapes and drawing what you actually see!

6th grade is working on their identity coat of arms. Students are using symbols and images to represent themselves. We had to spread out and use the floor to work on since our papers are so large!

In the Cartooning Elective, students got to experience figure drawing with their classmates. Using charcoal students looked carefully at the shapes the bodies made and used quick and simple lines to capture the dynamic poses.

There is a display of the student work outside of the art room. Be sure to check it out!

Week 3 - SMILING FACES, Centers & CLAY CREATIONS

Kindergarten is having their first art class in the Atelier this week! I am excited to have them in this great space. We started exploring different centers focusing on shapes and manipulating clay and blocks.

3rd Grade was all smiles to share their clay creations during the 3,2,1..Sculpt! Activity

Week 2 - Rolling Up Our Sleeves

3, 2, 1...SCULPT! Students in 5th Grade engaged with a sculpting activity with clay. Students responded to prompts using the clay at their tables. For example, students created Spikey Snakes, 5 cubes of different sizes, 3 Tall Cones and a slice of pizza.

4th Grade's 3,2,1 Sculpt Creations:

Week 1 - Welcome back CNH!

The 2017-2018 Year kicked off with a greeting from our Principal Dr. Shyla and the wonderful flower ceremony.

Fourth Grade also dives right in! My favorite question of the day was "Why are we getting messy on the first day of school?" and my response was "Its more fun that way!"

First Grade reacquainted themselves with the art room with a scavenger hunt. The students were so excited to find all of the materials and work together in small groups.

Middle School got things kicked off with a Kick Off Assembly where all of the teachers and students were introduced and the learned about the different elective options for the first trimester.
