Welcome to our Grade 1 class! This is most of us during our first week of school! Stay tuned for more photos of us being busy and having fun. Have a great year!
We participated in the Terry Fox Run today! We are holding up our fingers to show how many laps we did through the trails. Thank you to everyone who donated money to this important cause. We hope there will be an end to cancer soon.
We are studying insects right now. Here is a crazy picture of us with our butterfly art projects. Thank you to Mrs. Crossley for your help making these with us!
We recognized Truth and Reconciliation Day by wearing our Orange Shirts today. We know that "Every Child Matters", not just today, but every day.
We made Apple Crisp for our first cooking class of the school year! Thank you very much to Mrs. Crossley for donating the apples and to all the Moms and Dads who helped us out!
To recognize Fire Safety Week, we made fire hats with our name and fire station number. Some of us are Fire Captains and some are Fire Chiefs. Below are pictures of our Fire Safety visit from Deputy Chief Chris and Firefighter Brian. Thank you so much for showing us the fire truck and teaching us about fire safety!
Happy Thanksgiving from our Grade 1 Turkeys to you! We hope you have a wonderful long weekend with your families!
Thank you very much to Ms. Carlin's Uncle Kees and Auntie Linda for visiting our class and teaching us about Holland. We enjoyed asking you questions and we love the windmill and book you gave us. We hope you will visit again soon!
We made Ghost Cookies for Halloween. Thank you very much to all the Moms who helped us out today. We hope you enjoyed your time with us (and all our sugar!!)
We went to Providence Farm for a field trip today! We got to pick a pumpkin in the forest and go on a hayride around the grounds. Thank you to all the parents and grandparents who joined us today!
We carved our pumpkins from Providence Farm with our Grade 5/6R buddies. We had a great time cutting out the pumpkins and pulling out the "guts" inside. Some of us even saved the pumpkin seeds to take home and bake in the oven. Thank you very much to our buddies, Mrs. Rasmussen, and Mrs. Scholten for all your help with this project!
Happy Halloween from 1C! We are wearing Orange and Black today to celebrate the holiday! Wishing you all a safe and happy Halloween!
We went bowling with our Grade 5/6 Buddies! Thank you to Duncan Lanes for providing this fun activity for us!
We made Cinnamon Buns for our November baking class. Thank you very much to all our adult helpers who were able to join us today!
We had even more sugar with our Gingerbread House activity with our buddies! Thank you to Grade 5/6R for all your help and to the parents for bringing in the candy decorations.Â
These three photos are us with our completed projects, us pointing to the houses we made, and us demonstrating how we think we will react to eating all that sugar! Next up, broccoli houses! ;)
We celebrated Sinterklaas today (the Feast of St. Nicholas). Thank you to Uncle Kees and Auntie Linda for sending in gifts for us. We also had a good time trying to walk in some of our teacher's wooden shoes!
We visited the Forest Discovery Centre today. We got to make a Christmas craft, visit an old schoolhouse, and, of course, ride the Christmas Train! Thank you to all the adults who helped us out today!Â
Thank you Mr. Untereiner for visiting our classroom and reading to us. We enjoyed sharing "Snowmen at Night" and "Snowmen at Christmas" with you. Please visit us again in the new year.
We were part of the Nativity Choir during our Christmas Concert this year. We sang Away in a Manger, and Hark, the Herald Angels Sing, and We Three Kings.Â
Next stop, Hollywood! Merry Christmas everyone!
We had our Annual Turkey Dinner today. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was amazing! A giant thank you to all the Parent Group helpers who worked so hard to prepare this meal for us! We are very blessed!
Fridays are stuffy days in 1C. When students forget their stuffy at home, they are welcome to borrow one of mine. Unfortunately Billy had a bit of trouble with this one today. ;)
Thank you Mrs. Rasmussen for visiting our class and talking with us about Epiphany. In one picture we are closing our eyes and thinking about what it would be like to hold hands with Jesus.
We made Fudge Brownies for our first cooking class of the new year. Thank you very much to everyone who helped out today and special thank you to Kate W for sharing her recipe with us.
Everyone was here today so we had to get a photo of this lovely bunch! ;)
Today was a rare indoor lunch playtime. Here are some of us getting creative with how to spend our time!
We went on a field trip to the Cowichan Exhibition Grounds for Young Farmers Day. It was a great time! We got to explore and do many things including seeing farm animals, learning about where our food comes from, planting seeds, weaving, and visiting a number of vendors who shared their knowledge with us. They also shared a lot of treats! Thank you very much to our parent helpers who braved the rain and took care of groups for us.Â
Catholic Schools Week (below) was a super busy and super fun time! Some of the things that happened included visiting Father Roger at Church, "Anything But a Backpack" Day, Dress Like a Teacher Day, and Buddy activities.
Thank you to #10 Sean Whyte and #33 Jackson Findlay from the BC Lions for coming to our school and teaching us about conserving energy and taking care of the earth. It was great to meet you.
We had the best time on our field trip to Duncan Dynamics Gymnastics Club! Thank you very much to the coaches for providing this event for us and to the parents who came along and cheered us on!
During our properties of matter unit, Mrs. Crossley showed us an experiment with liquids turning into solids. We had fun guessing how long it would take for the juice to freeze. We get to sample the experiments next week!
Happy Valentine's Day to all our families and friends! We love you!
We celebrated Shrove Tuesday (Mardi Gras) and Day 100 on the same day! It was crazy! Here are some photos of us dressed liked we are 100 years old, wearing our Mardi Gras masks and beads, and eating pancakes are sausages in the basement of the church. Thank you very much to the Knights of Columbus and the Parent Support Group for making this meal for us!
We had so many activities planned for Day 100, that we had to stretch them out over a few days. Here we are making Fruit Loop necklaces, counting the licks to the middle of a popsicle (from our experiment with Mrs. Crossley), and searching for 100 numbered chocolate kisses that we had to add to a graph. We were very proud of ourselves that we found all of them! Now we are going to limit our sugar for Lent. Next stop, broccoli! ;)
Thank you Mrs. Crossley for teaching us about Chinese New Year, for reading to us, and for the gifts! Gung Hay Fat Choy!
We make Chocolate Chip cookies for our February baking project. Thank you very much to the Moms and Grandmas who helped us out! We are glad you could all join us.
Rhodes and his Mom brought in their dog, Pluto, for a visit today. Thank you for sharing your little "Furball" with us. We liked hearing about the funny things he does at home and how you care for him and keep him healthy.
Mr. Untereiner returned to read one of our class favourite books, "Chester" with us. It is about a cat who tries to rewrite a story and ends up in a pink tutu! Thank you for visiting and sharing this funny story with us.
To recognize Anit-Bullying Day, we are wearing our pink shirts today. We are reminded that it is important to be kind today and every day.
