Every family's schedule and life are different, and I want to honour that. Children work hard at school all day long, and I want to encourage them to enjoy their afternoons and evenings in whatever way brings them the most joy.
To support our classroom learning without overwhelming your evenings, here is what homework looks like this year:
Nightly Reading & Spelling: Students are encouraged to read and practice spelling weekly. No tedious reading logs here! Please initial the days on the monthly calendar page in your child's student planner to track their reading.
Morning Messages: Throughout the week, I’ll post a picture of our daily morning message. Please read the message at home with your child. Depending on their personal goals, they can focus on decoding skills, high-frequency words, reading smoothly, or using good expression.
Optional "Can-Do" Activities: Each month, I will send home optional homework calendars and fun reading bingo sheets for students who want some extra practice. Those are also below for your benefit.
Term "Must-Do" Projects: Once per term, we will have one required assignment designed to reinforce our current classroom learning theme.
📚 'Can-Do' Monthly Homework Calendars
Daily reading is our primary focus in 3rd grade! Students should be reading for 20 minutes every night to build their fluency and comprehension.
Looking for a little extra practice? Below, you’ll find our Monthly Homework Calendars. These are completely optional, "can-do" activities designed to reinforce what we are learning in class. There is no pressure to complete them—just dive in if you're looking for an extra learning boost at home!
All items are due by Tuesday, September 29th, ahead of our classroom gallery walk on Friday, October 2nd.
