Going Further

In the Going Further stage, I made sense of my research by creating and justifying my central idea. I researched about people and organizations taking action to help those who do not have access to clean water. Then, I thought about actions that I could to help solve this problem. I came up with three actions: sharing a counter of the deaths due to lack of access to clean water, a cooking video showing the importance of using clean water in cooking, and a video showing how to make a water filter. I didn't know how to make a water filter before and the experience was something that I learned a lot from. I am most proud of the water filter that I made.

Who is helping?

My Influential Person

My influential person is Matt Damon. He is an American actor who co-founded the organization called Water.org which works hard to bring water and sanitation into the world, especially for those who do not have access to clean water. He has won an award from the Environmental Media Association. He is principled and open-minded because he helps people that need help. He is smart and caring because he chose to clean the sea and thought of many ways to give people clean water. He is also a communicator because everyone listens to him when talks about his organization and his passion for clean water.

Matt Damon inspired me to research about water and how to make water clean so we can help those who do not have access to clean water. Like him, I also want to help solve this problem and help people who do not have access to clean water.

Watermatic Philippines is an organization that helps people who do not have access to clean water. Watermatic Philippines Corporation (WMP) is a joint venture company of Vivant Corporation and WaterMatic International which provides Engineering and Technological solutions for water supply and used water applications in the Philippines.

Water for People is an organization that dreams of making the water crisis a problem in the past. Water For People was founded in 1991 by the American Water Works Association as a response to the increasing global water crises.

Water.org is a global nonprofit organization working to bring water and sanitation to the world. It is an American nonprofit developmental aid organization resulting from the merger between H2O Africa Foundation, co-founded by Matt Damon, and WaterPartners, co-founded by Gary White.

My Actions

My Action #1

I took action to inform people by sharing a counter that shows how many people are dying from dirty water every second.I wanted people to know this so that they will find ways to help and reach out to people who do not have access to clean water.

My action could be considered sustainable because this is something that people can continue to do even after my PYPx. This will keep people informed if there is progress or not. It was effective because it is real and going on, it is a reliable source of information, and people will be aware of how big this problem is.

My Action #2

I took action to improve this problem by showing people how to create a water filter. I did this action to let people know that there are simple ways to make dirty water into clean water. I also wanted to show people that this problem can be solved.

Creating the water filter was not easy. I had to find a lot of materials that I don't have at home like charcoal, filter paper, a cutter, small rocks, and beach sand.

My action could be considered sustainable because making a water filter can help people who do not have access to clean water and this can easily be made. It was effective because this can help people who do not have access to clean water.

My Action #3

I took action to increase my own and others' empathy by making a cooking video with clean water and dirty water. I want other people to feel what it's like to not have clean water. I want them to see how important clean water is for cooking and what happens to your food when you use dirty water in cooking. Yuck!

This was a challenging action. It was a challenge to make a pancake with dirty water because it takes me a long time to make it and when it was ready it looked very weird because it was very brown.

My action could be considered sustainable because this video can be used over and over even in the future to demonstrate the importance of clean water to people's health.

It was effective because by showing people the difference between using clean water and dirty water in cooking, they can understand better the importance o clean water, develop sympathy for those who lack access to clean water, take pity on them, and help them.
