Unit reflection
In my opinion, I think my main concept is very creative and unite, which is to show appearanceism with a coloring skill called fauvism. The global context for this unit is "Our perception of beauty and taste informed by our personal and cultural interpretation and experiences of different artistic expressions influence how we create art.". If it was me before, after reading the global context I would just start to draw a beautiful person who is my ideal type. However, by the time pass, I learn that beauty is not strength, it only increases the number of times that others are judging on you. To represent different views of the people who are judging, I used fauvism coloring skills and by this, I wanted to criticize the point that appearanceism is not implicit.
The challenge I had while working on this unit was to understand the concept of fauvism. Fauvism, its style emphasizes painterly qualities and strong color over the representational or realistic values retained by impression. It doesn't mean that using only bright color is a fauvism, but the colors have to harmonize together. By researching the fauvism, I started to gets the knowledge and understanding nd was able to successes with my final artwork.

Art influences society by changing opinions, adding value, and translating experiences over space and time. Research shows that art affects the fundamental sense of the ego. Painting, sculpture, music, literature and other arts are often considered a repository of collective memory of society. Art preserves what fact-based historical records cannot. It's the way you feel like you are in a certain place at a certain time. In this sense, art is communication. It allows people from different cultures and times to communicate with each other through images, sounds and stories. Art is often a vehicle for social change. It can give a voice to those who have been deprived of political or social rights. A song, movie, or novel can evoke emotions in those who come across it and inspire them to gather for change.
The artform that I chose and studied for this project is decorative art. Decorative arts or crafts whose object is the design and manufacture of objects that are both beautiful and functional. Decorative art is connected with any art that is concerned with the design and decoration; Ceramics , glassware, basketry, jewelry, metalware, furniture, textiles, clothing, and other such goods are the objects most commonly associated with the decorative arts.
For this unit, I decided to decorate a mask, which is an object that became a large part of our daily life recently. While suffering on social media, I saw a short clip video of sewing small cute elements at the top corner of the mask. I found out that this is an interesting way of decorating because of the used material: the sewing kit.
From the beginning of 2020 until now, people worldwide are wearing masks to protect themselves from the virus. As time passed, in the street, I was able to see that a number of people were not wearing masks because they were getting annoyed with the pandemic situation and felt cramped while wearing it. I cannot deal with feeling cramped wearing the mask, however, with the decorative art and my sewing skill, I at least wanted to make people wear masks properly and feel not a big but small happiness by looking at the decorations on their masks.
