World History - Course Description

This course will explore the story of civilization as it unfolded around the world between the 13th and 19th century. It is a continuation of the Ancient Civilizations world history course that students took last year in Grade 6 and same textbook will be used as our primary resource.
Students will be told amazing stories and have the opportunity to critically analyse, compare and contrast, retell, and speculate on them. While memorization of some facts will be required, the most important part of this class is to be able to develop a broad sense of world history and how events are connected through space and time.
Each unit, students will be exposed to primary historical sources and each summative assessment will contain at least one question that involves critical analysis a primary source.

Challenge: Learn all the countries of Europe (and maybe even Asia). Practice with the following websites until you are an expert. Knowing the modern political geography of today's countries will help you a lot next year in Social Studies and throughout your life. Playing map guessing games is a fun and effective way to learn:
