A-Level PE is divided into three core theoretical areas, alongside practical performance and written analysis coursework. Students explore sport from a scientific, psychological and social perspective.

Written Examinations (70%)
There are two written exams at the end of Year 13:
Paper 1 - Factors Affecting Participation in Physical Activity and Sport 2 hours – 35% of A-Level
Focuses on applied anatomy and physiology, biomechanics and skill acquisition.
Paper 2 - Factors Affecting Optimal Performance in Physical Activity and Sport 2 hours – 35% of A-Level
Covers sports psychology, socio-cultural issues and contemporary influences.
Both exams combine multiple-choice questions, short answers and extended essays requiring depth and evaluation.
Non-Exam Assessment (NEA) – 30%
Practical Performance (15%)
Students are assessed as a performer or coach in one selected sport.
Assessment focuses on skills, tactics and effectiveness in a competitive or formal context.
Performance Analysis and Evaluation (15%)
A written coursework task where students analyse performance using theoretical principles, identify strengths and weaknesses, produce an action plan for improvement and apply biomechanical, physiological and psychological concepts.
