As a department, we have selected topics for study which we judge as vital to the historical education of students at Churston; events which have been decisive in shaping both national and world history. These topics emphasise the importance of our school values of Social Justice and Active Citizenship, whilst also providing opportunities for students to see how local histories link to these global historical topics. The intertwining of world, national, and local histories brings resonance and relevance to what is studied whilst also preparing students to take their place in the wider world.
Students have the chance to take part in History-themed clubs and societies and to stretch themselves through participation in competitions such as the Historical Association's Great Debate.
We also regularly run trips to historical sites, including a hugely popular residential trip to the WW1 battlefields of Flanders and the Somme.
