8-31-2020: A Great First Day Back in ChurchillCSD!

Thank you today for your flexibility and patience as we began a school year like none before. We had a successful day and it was great to see students on campus again and to engage with all of our awesome learners!

A few reminders:

  • If you are calling the transportation department for any questions, please leave a message or email mitchellk@churchillcsd.com

  • LINQ Rapid Health Screener—If you were unable to log your student today, try again to make your account and complete the form tomorrow for each of your children.

  • If you were able to make an account, but unable to link your child/ren, try again to link your child using option #2 with the credentials that were emailed last week. If that was unsuccessful, please email parentinfo@churchillcsd.com for additional help.

  • Please remember to sign and return all documents that went home with students today.

  • We ask that students use school-issued Chromebooks to complete all school work, as these devices have filters to maintain security and confidentiality, which are top priorities in ChurchillCSD. Click here to view information about Chromebooks in ChurchillCSD, including the Student Chromebook Handbook

We will continue to notify families with reminders and updates as we move through the week. Thank you again to everyone for the smooth start!

8-27-2020 District Update (English & Spanish)

8/24/2020 Message from ChurchillCSD: Start Day Postponed to Mon., August 31

In consultation with the Churchill County Manager, the Churchill County School District administration has made the difficult decision to postpone the start of the school year until Monday, August 31, 2020 for all students, including those enrolled in full-time remote learning, due to changing circumstances in our community and in the district, such as a significant numbers of families changing their requests for online or in person instruction which resulted in challenges to transportation department needs. The administration understands families may experience challenges with this decision. The district administrators expect to be fully ready for August 31st and will be in touch with families through the rest of this week. If you have questions, please email parentinfo@churchillcsd.com.

The district will continue the food distribution sites tomorrow, Tuesday, August 25th through Friday, August 28th as listed at the following link, which is also available on the district FB page, the district website and district reopening website to ensure families can have access to meals until we open on the 31st.

8-17-2020 Message to Full-Time Remote Learning Students

Welcome to the Churchill Online Learning Academy (COLA) for the 20-21 school year!

Our teachers have been busy participating in training, creating web pages, building Google Classrooms, and creating schedules to ensure that they provide the best opportunities for our fully online learners, but they should be reaching out to you within the next day. Please know that not only are you part of this awesome adventure with other COLA students, you are also members of your home school, such as LES, Numa, of CCHS. Both are important places for you to belong this year!

School begins next Tuesday, so we will be sending out more information this week regarding Chromebooks deployment (CCSD just received over 1500 devices to deploy), schedules, and course information (how to log in and access the class/es). Make sure to check your email regularly for updates.

We are excited to work with you and your family and by working together, we can ensure that every student is provided the academic, emotional, and social support they need to be successful in the Churchill Online Learning Academy.

Thank you! - Teachers of the COLA

8-11-2020 Notification:

7-27-2020: Information Regarding Available Childcare in Churchill County

ChurchillCSD and its community partners are looking for ways to support as many families as possible with school-age childcare solutions as we move into the reopening of schools.

Please visit our "Available Childcare for Churchill County" sheet at bit.ly/churchillcountychildcareoptions to learn about current child care options/openings. The main tab shows the current seats that are available, and each entity's page (bottom tabs) contains all of the relevant contact information and other information parents will need to make decisions. Please keep in mind that at this time the district is unsure if it will be able to provide transportation from schools to the various entities.

Local care entities are looking to partner with the District to ensure that all groups involved are up to speed on the out-of-school-tasks that students are being asked to complete. By working together we will ensure academic time is available, as well as time to enhance learning through hands-on and active learning options. We will also work together to ensure children have a place to have their morning and mid-day meals before and after school (depending on the attendance plan).

Please visit bit.ly/churchillcountychildcareoptions to view entities and organizations with available seats for childcare in the fall. Please note that more providers may be added to the list on a regular basis and all will have available seats updated frequently.

We have received the updated NIAA schedule for the 2020-2021 school year. We are grateful for the NIAA team working with district leaders, principals, athletic directors, and coaches to create an option to ensure our young athletes have opportunities to compete. The ChurchillCSD athletic department will provide updates to the coaches and players regarding next steps.

7-16-2020 Message to Families

Good Evening ChurchillCSD Families, Our District staff and leadership teams are working diligently on all things related to the plan to submit to the Board of Trustees regarding reopening schools for Fall 2020.

One element that can be shared at this point is that the students start date has changed to August 25, 2020, as approved by the Board of Trustees. All students will start on this date, regardless of the plan that is chosen, and includes students whose families have opted for Full-Time Remote Learning. The changed start date does not affect the originally scheduled end date of May 29, 2021 at this time, as the extra days have been granted by the Nevada Department of Education as staff professional development days.

Teachers will be back on the 12th of August as originally scheduled and will have a number of Professional Development days prior to students returning so that they can be prepared for whichever model is approved by the Board of Trustees and the Nevada Department of Education.

Specifics about the reopening plan are still being developed based on the reopening committee's recommendations, parent input, as well as many other factors. The draft of the final plan will be shared at the end of next week prior to the Board of Trustees' meeting on July 27th, 2020.

We will also continue to work with community partners to plan for support and assistance to families as we re-enter this very different school year.

We wish for you and your family to enjoy the rest of your break, and look forward to connecting with and teaching your children for the 2020-2021 school year, regardless of what model of the final plan is selected.

Students Requiring WiFi Access

The district is working to help families find WiFi connections as we don't want to encourage students to congregate in large groups throughout town during the day. We do encourage families to look into alternates for getting Wifi to your homes, if you do not currently have Wifi access. You can contact your phone providers to see if they are offering any assistance with Wifi access or increased mobile data at this time.
