Keep a Routine!
Kids (and adults!) benefit from consistency. Having a predictable routine builds a sense of safety and security and reduces anxiety. This is particularly important during times of stress.
Here are some tips for establishing a routine during our school closure:
1. Stick to consistent wake-up and bedtimes.
2. Have meals and snacks around the same time each day.
3. Set aside a time and place for work.
4. Schedule breaks to allow for play and relaxation.
Many children also benefit from a visual schedule to help them follow their routine. For older children, this could be a simple checklist. For younger children, try a picture schedule!
