Today more than ever before, we are better informed about our impact on the environment and the need to come together as an active School community to appreciate the wider world - and our place in it. CHS is committed to being a sustainable and socially responsible school and we will be developing plans to implement more initiatives which put into practice a responsible sourcing policy.
As well as our initiatives to reduce energy use (see Reduce), the School's electricity provider uses 100% renewable energy, and we work with our on-site service contractors to examine their environmental impact and put action plans in place for more responsible resourcing.
Through Sodexo, we source the food prepared in our Dining Hall and The Underpass responsibly and ethically. Award winning meat and poultry is purchased from J.Pimlotts Butchers in Cheadle Hulme and can be traced back to Red Tractor certified local farms. Sodexo’s sustainable procurement policy focuses on sustainability, seasonality and provenance and our Catering team take pride in sourcing the best ingredients to make the best food, and only use:
100% Red Tractor fresh milk and cream
Fresh British fruit and vegetables wherever possible
RSPCA Freedom Food accredited pork and British Lion marked eggs
MSC certified fish and seafood
Fairtrade, Rainforest Alliance and organic coffee
Our menus support the ethos of "Meat-Free-Monday" which aims to raise awareness of the detrimental environmental impact of eating meat, and to encourage people to help slow climate change, preserve precious natural resources and improve their health by having at least one meat free day each week.
Many of the products on sale in the Dining Hall and Breakfast and Recess bear the Rainforest Alliance Certified seal which indicates that the they meet standards that require environmental, social, and economic sustainability.
