We understand the importance of this decision which is why we recommend that you research your option choices on this Site carefully. At interview we expect to see that you have taken the time to reflect on your achievements so far, your skill set, your interests and ambitions and understand why you are making your option decisions. We will provide as much guidance as we can during your interview, including pointing out grade requirements and the advantages (or limitations) of your choices.
However, as an external candidate we will need to rely on you to demonstrate you have thought carefully about your decisions. We do recognise that occasionally students may wish to review their choices, this is why we ask you to confirm your choices if an offer is made and why we may contact you again to review these decisions with you.
The Sixth Form offers a wonderful opportunity for you to expand your academic horizons and study a new subject, you just need to make sure you have completed your research and you understand what this subject entails. If every option you take is a new subject we would want to understand your reasons and we would want you to understand the unique challenges you may face.
Financial assistance is available in the Sixth Form and we like to be able to offer this to exceptional students. To be considered you must ensure that you have applied before the 1 December 5pm deadline. You may wish to mention that you are applying for financial assistance at your interview if you think it would help us understand your reasons for wanting to join us.
At CHS we believe it is important that you primarily take a subject to advanced level if you enjoy it and you are good at it. We also understand that some subjects will help you towards your chosen career path, but these are relatively few, for example medicine. It is important to us that you enjoy your next two years and therefore we recommend that you make the best choices for you.
Experience has taught us that Core Maths as a 'plus one' can often help students studying Business, Economics, Psychology and Biology. Generally, we do not recommend students take only 1 Science, but we recognise that it can be a complementary subject for certain subjects/careers. This is why it is crucial that you have thought carefully about what is best for you and your future before your interview. Remember, our Sixth Form Team will be here to advise you and answer any of your questions if you are unsure.
