Netiquette is internet etiquette. To explain netiquette, we will explore some of our teacher-created resources (and some from other great teachers we know!). Below, you'll find some important quotes, documents, and videos that offer some good rules to follow in different forms of online communication. Click to visit the resources. If you are an educator and would like to explore a website created by one of our own that outlines how to teach this topic, click the button below.
"The digital world and the non-virtual world are truly one in the same. Just like in the non-virtual world, where we know that certain rules and regulations exist, there are virtual rules and regulations that we need to follow as digital citizens. And, just like in the non-virtual world, there are certain rights and responsibilities you have as a member of this community... The first step in being a digital citizen is sharing your rights and responsibilities with others, especially those who do not know what these ideas entail, as a good digital citizen makes the internet safe for everybody. Something to keep in mind is that all actions online do impact our real world, because the internet and technology, despite being virtual worlds, are closely intertwined in our real lives." (Tarrant, 2015).
If you are unsure about how to best support your online learner, reach out to your child's teachers (Schoology Messages or emails work wonderfully). Together, you can create an action plan that will work for your student.
