PreK - 1st Grade

During the first month of our ministry year, we focus on teaching children they are the church and the church worships God, rather than emphasizing a single element of worship. 

Unit Lessons

• September 13: We worship only God. (Matthew 4: 1-11)

• September 20: We worship God through Jesus (John 4: 1-30)

• September 27: We worship God together (Acts 2: 42-47)

And He put all things under His feet and gave Him as head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.

Element Spotlight for Grownups:

Corporate worship is the heartbeat of the Christian life—a sacred meeting where God invites us to step into His presence and reenact the story of redemption. Through the reading of Scripture, prayer, and the sacraments, God communicates His grace, shaping our identity and equipping us to live for His glory throughout the week. Gathering as the body of Christ re-centers our lives around who God is and reminds us that worship is not merely a routine, but a communal encounter with our covenant Savior.

Our children are a vital, equal part of this covenant community. Worshiping alongside adults anchors their identity and purpose, instilling spiritual rhythms long before they fully grasp every detail of the service. Their presence enriches the entire church: it reminds us to rely on God with childlike faith, displays the beauty of an intergenerational body, and testifies to God's faithful promises across generations. Rather than focusing on a single element this month, we are laying a foundation by introducing basic worship signs and phrases—equipping our children to recognize, celebrate, and actively join in the worship of our God.

This month our children will learn that the sermon is God speaking to His people. While the adults hear the sermon in the sanctuary, our children study the same truths here. By learning to "Walk in the Word" now, they are being equipped to sit in the full service, transitioning from hearing stories to hearing God’s voice alongside the whole congregation.

Unit Lessons

• April 12: God told Noah to build an ark. (Genesis 6:9–7:5)

• April 19: Jesus called Zacchaeus to come out of the tree. (Luke 19:1-10)

• April 26: Jesus called Paul while he was traveling. (Acts 9:1-19)

Element Spotlight for Grownups:

Hearing and understanding God’s Word extends to our covenant children. They, too, need to hear the truth of Scripture in a way they can grasp. However, more than just learning right from wrong, they must know that we do not obey God to earn His love—we obey because He first loved us (1 John 4:19). From the earliest age, they should hear the good news of Jesus Christ, who came to save sinners, and the incredible story of redemption that unfolds in Scripture.   

Teaching young children can be challenging, yet we trust in the work of the Holy Spirit. Even when it seems little progress is being made, God’s Word is taking root in their hearts. As Isaiah 55:11 assures us, His Word will accomplish what He intends. We must be faithful in teaching and patient in waiting, knowing that only God brings growth. Children may know the stories long before they understand the meaning, and we can trust that God will use His Word to strengthen His people from generation to generation. 

This month our children will explore the "what, why, and how" of the Benediction. Because they are present in the sanctuary for this blessing every Sunday, we want to help them move from simply noticing the ritual to actively receiving God’s Word. They will learn that we are blessed with a purpose: to be filled by God’s grace and sent out to share His light with the world.

• May 3rd: God watches over you. (Mark 10:13-16)

• May 10th: Jesus tells His disciples to make disciples of all nations. (Matthew 28:16-20)

• May 17th: The Church* was born to share the good news of Jesus. (Acts 8:26-40)

• May 24th: Jesus is coming again! (Jude 24, Revelation 22:12-14)

Element Spotlight for Grownups:

Children can understand that church is not just a place we go but a time when we gather as the body of Christ to remember God’s love, receive His blessing, and be prepared to share it with others. We are blessed so we might be a blessing. Jesus is our King, and His kingdom has no end. In all we say and do, we proclaim this truth, living as those filled by God’s grace and sent to shine His light.   

We can teach children that our time together at church reminds us of who we are and of the purpose God has given to all His children. God blesses us, and we were created to share this blessing with all those around us. 

Children will learn that the Church is God’s family, gathered from every nation to worship Him. As we wrap up our year, we’ll explore how we are "living stones" who gather to praise our King and are sent to serve our city. To help them "go" this summer, each child will receive a prayer resource to continue their mission of worshiping Jesus wherever they are!

• June 14th: We go forth and serve. (Acts 2:42-47)

Children can understand that church is not just a place we go but a time when we gather as the body of Christ to remember God’s love, receive His blessing, and be prepared to share it with others. We teach our children that the Church is a global family made up of people from every nation and every language, and that they are essential parts of this body right now.

God blesses us, and we were created to share this blessing with all those around us. As we wrap up our year and put together everything we have learned, we send our children out for the summer ready to share God’s love. We are blessed so that we might be a blessing, living as those sent to show the love of Jesus to everyone we encounter.
