Over 20 billion shoes are thrown away Globally each year. 300 million shoes alone in the U.S get tossed into landfills per year. Many of the shoes tossed into landfills are either new, or can be restored. It takes roughly 30 to 1,000 years for a shoe to properly decompose. Instead of making more shoes, donate your gently worn or new shoes to help our environment and economy.
Fun Fact:
Often times when businesses and thrift stores can't sell a pair of shoes, they just end up tossing them.
Funds2org is a non-profit organization based in Florida.
What Do They Do?
Funds sent Micah and Kathaleen items to kick start the shoe drive. At the end of the shoe drive FBLA and NHS will load a truck, sent from Funds, to the base in Florida. From there, Funds will clean, fix, and either donate or resell the shoes. They help support micro businesses and communities in 3rd World Countries.
How Do We Make a Profit?
FBLA and NHS must fill bags with 25 pairs of complete shoes. The more bags the better. Each bag is weighed by funds once it arrives at the organization. FBLA and NHS gets 0.40 cents per pound in the bags.
