Mental health is you being able to control everything that is going on in your head
Mental health is “Our emotions, our thoughts and feelings, our ability to solve problems and overcome difficulties, our social connections, and our understanding of the world around us.” Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood.
Mental illness affects that way people think, feel, behave, or interact with others
There are many types of mental illnesses such as depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, plus many more. Mental illnesses usually need a lot more attention, and they need a diagnosis from a medical professional. The people who struggle with a mental illness may go and see a therapist and get prescribed medication.
Mental illness among children are described as serious changes in the way children typically learn, behave, or handle their emotions, which cause distress and problems getting through the day. If symptoms are serious and persistent and interfere with school, home, or play activities, the child may be diagnosed with a mental disorder.
Healthcare professionals use the guidelines in the American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual, to help diagnose mental health disorders in children as; Anxiety, Depression, Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), Conduct Disorder (CD), Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Tics and Tourette Syndrome, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Clinical psychologists work with children and families. They provide a range of services including clinical assessment and diagnosis, psychometric assessment, counseling and therapy.
Clinical psychologists apply a scientist-practitioner approach, utilizing psychological interventions that have demonstrated effectiveness in treating the particular difficulties that a child or young person is presenting with. They do not prescribe medication. Moreover, they apply psychological theory and scientific research to resolve clinical problems across the lifespan.
Being mentally healthy during childhood means reaching developmental and emotional milestones and learning healthy social skills and how to cope when there are problems. Mentally healthy children have a positive quality of life and can function well at home, in school, and in their communities.
Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act, and helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices
