A. APPLICATION TO CHIJ SECONDARY

1. What is Direct School Admission (DSA)?

Direct School Admission (DSA) gives schools the flexibility in selecting students in the niche areas specified by the individual schools. This also allows Primary 6 pupils to be recognized on a more diverse range of achievements and talents.

2. Is there an admission quota for DSA in CHIJ Secondary?

CHIJ Secondary admits up to 20% of her Secondary 1 students via DSA.

3. How much flexibility is given to CHIJ Secondary to select students?

Schools can decide on their own admission criteria. However, Primary 6 pupils must achieve PSLE results that would enable them to be eligible for admission to the stream or course being offered by the school.

4. Can I apply to CHIJ Secondary through another CCA not listed in the school’s niche areas?

No. Applicants may only apply through the talent areas listed.

5. Must I still sit the PSLE if I have received a Confirmed Offer from CHIJ Secondary?

Yes, students must sit the PSLE, even if they have received a Confirmed Offer from CHIJ Secondary.

6. Can a pupil below Primary 6 apply for DSA?

No, admission to Secondary 1 is only for pupils at Primary 6 or its equivalent.

7. What is the closing date for submission of DSA application to CHIJ Secondary?

Applications close at 3pm on Wednesday, 31 May 2023. Late applications will not be considered.

8. Can I still opt for CHIJ Secondary in the Posting Exercise if I do not make it through the selection rounds?

Yes, you can still choose CHIJ Secondary in the Centralized Posting Exercise, after you have received your PSLE results. However, this admission will be solely based on your PSLE results and the availability of places in the school.

9. Can I apply for more than one niche area?

Yes, CHIJ Secondary allows you to apply for more than one niche areas, but you will be chosen based on ONE area only. For instance, if you apply for DSA through Netball and Basketball and you are successful, you will only get a Confirmed Offer based on either Netball or Basketball, but not both.

B. CHIJ SELECTION PROCESS

1. How does CHIJ Secondary select the students?

Trials will be conducted by the respective CCA teachers and coaches or instructors. There will also be an interview conducted by school leaders and selected key personnel.

2. When will I be notified of the trials and interviews?

Letters of notification will be sent by email to applicants informing them of the trials and the reporting time and venue. You will be notified after the closing date for applications.

3. Will I receive a letter if I am not shortlisted for the trial and/or interview?

You will not receive a notification email if you are not shortlisted for the trial and/or interview.

4. When will I know if I have been selected?

The outcome of applications (successful or unsuccessful) for the entire DSA process will be released by 11 September 2023, via email.

C. SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS

1. Do I still have to take part in the MOE Posting Exercise if I am selected by CHIJ Secondary?

If you are successfully allocated to their CHIJ Secondary under the DSA, you will NOT be allowed to participate in the annual Sec 1 Posting Exercise to opt for secondary schools, and are expected to honour the commitment to CHIJ Secondary for the entire duration of the programme.

You will also NOT be allowed to transfer to another school after the release of the PSLE results.

However, you will still be issued an Option form, where you will be given the opportunity to indicate your interest in elective programmes that you are eligible for.
