What is SEPAC?

SEPAC is an all-volunteer committee of parents of children with disabilities working in collaboration with Chico Unified School District staff, school administrators, and educators. SEPAC aims to promote a positive and knowledgeable partnership between parents and caregivers of children with disabilities and the professionals who serve them. SEPAC works directly with district staff and school sites to promote equal access to educational opportunities for special education students, collaborate on Special Education policy changes, and exchange ideas and share solutions to the challenging issues children with disabilities face in schools and our community.

SEPAC'S Core Mission

SEPAC is committed to working hand-in-hand with parents and Chico Unified School District staff to create positive working relationships that remain focused on meeting each child's needs. We want you to have all the tools needed to be a confident, engaged, and informed team member in your child's education. We aim to advocate for district-wide policy changes and cultural shifts to enhance the educational experience for children with disabilities. We also want to Spotlight CUSD special education programs, events, teachers, aides, and school administrators that have positively impacted children with disabilities.

SEPAC is committed to:

SEPAC is
here to
help you
every step
of the way!

Ways we can help!

The parents who make up this collaboration are here to assist you and answer your questions regarding your child’s IEP, help connect you with community resources, and, most of all, provide support from those who understand. We are here to support and guide you as you acquaint yourself with all the new terms, rules, and forms of Special Education. We want to help create a strong community of Special Education advocates and allies. Be sure to look out for our social get-togethers and training classes throughout the year, where we make connections with other parents who understand.

Why you should get involved in SEPAC

Participation in SEPAC offers the opportunity to raise questions, voice concerns, provide direct feedback to school leadership, and influence policy and program decisions. SEPAC events offer opportunities for children to connect with their peers and parents/caregivers to make connections outside of the classroom. The great benefit of participating in SEPAC is the opportunity to advocate for special education rights in ways that can reach a broader community of children.

SEPAC Spotlight Awards

Is there a specific CUSD special education program, teacher, aide, counselor, or school administrator who has positively impacted the lives of children with disabilities?

SEPAC wants to honor and celebrate the exceptional special education
programs, events, and staff members in our school district.

Each month, SEPAC will Spotlight people who work for Chico Unified School District who have gone above and beyond to advocate for children with disabilities. Nominations may be a classroom teacher, aide, coach, special educator, counselor, school administrator, or any other school employee who has positively impacted your child or family. The SEPAC Spotlight Award can also highlight special education programs and school events that successfully ensure that students with disabilities have full inclusion and access to school and community events.
