Scholarships and Financial Aid
The Chico Community Scholarship Association is a local organization that provides many scholarships yearly to local and graduating students. The application normally opens around January.
The North Valley Community Foundation offers a variety of scholarships to high school seniors and recent graduates.
In this bulletin you will find a list of all the reputable scholarships we learn about. You can browse the list of scholarships to find the right one for you!
Students who are interested in receiving federal and state financial aid for college should apply for FAFSA. The application is free and should only take about 20 minutes to complete. The counseling office encourages all of our seniors to apply for FAFSA.
SAT/ACT/PSAT
SAT/ACT
The CSU and UC systems no longer use the SAT or ACT examinations in determining admission eligibility.
For private universities and out of state colleges, please check the individual school’s websites.
NCAA
If you plan to play a sport for an NCAA Divison I or Division II school, you need to be certified by the NCAA Eligibility Center and you will need to be academically eligible
In order to be Academically eligible you must graduate high school and meet ALL the following requirements:
Complete 16 core courses:
Four years of English
Three years of math (Algebra 1 or higher)
Two years of natural/physical science (including one year of lab science if your high school offers it)
One additional year of English, math or natural/physical science
Two years of social science
Four additional years of English, math, natural/physical science, social science, foreign language, comparative religion or philosophy
Complete 10 core courses, including seven in English, math or natural/physical science, before your seventh semester. Once you begin your seventh semester, you may not repeat or replace any of those 10 courses to improve your core-course GPA.
Earn at least a 2.3 GPA in your core courses.
Earn an SAT combined score or ACT sum score matching your core-course GPA on the Division I sliding scale, which balances your test score and core-course GPA. If you have a low test score, you need a higher core-course GPA to be eligible. If you have a low core-course GPA, you need a higher test score to be eligible.
