Sight & Vocabulary Words
Sight words (also known as high frequency words) and vocabulary words help support reading.
Sight words allow readers to see these words and instantly read without decoding to enhance speed and efficient reading.
Some sight words are "decodable" meaning they follow regular spelling patterns and can be "sounded out" (ex. in, and, see). Others have irregular parts that must be memorized or known by heart (ex. was, said)
Vocabulary words are critical to student comprehension, if we understand the word meaning while we read, the passage is easily understood.
