become a music ambassador

Every two years the Chico High A Cappella Choir goes on a performance tour. 2019 was our amazing Ireland tour! Students spent six days singing in ancient ruins and cathedrals, as well as getting to perform and hang out with Irish high school students. It was an amazing experience. 2022 will be our next trip! Past tour destinations include Carnegie Hall in New York, Disneyland, Australia, and China!

MEET OUR GROUPS

Chico High School choirs have a rich history of outstanding concerts and are respected for consistently high performance standards. The choirs, whether auditioned or non-auditioned, are open to all Chico High students- there is a choir to suit everyone. Each of the six choirs performs in at least one major concert a semester and participates in a variety of other activities, including community performances and outreach to the local elementary and Jr. High schools. Choir is a great way to make new friends, connect and give back to the community, learn to read and write music, learn vocal techniques, and gain the confidence and poise it takes to perform in a group in front of an audience. Thank you to all the amazing parents, staff, community members and students who have helped to shape the Chico High Choral program throughout the years.

There are five ensembles in the Choral Department:

  • A Cappella

  • Mixed Chorus

  • Madrigals

  • Chico Chic

  • Sac Street

Each of these ensembles performs at concerts and for special events in the community throughout the year. The two large ensembles, A Cappella Choir and Mixed Chorus consistently take top honors at regional festivals in Northern California. Voce and Sac Street Boys are highly sought after by the community for special performances throughout the year.

Sac street

Sac Street is the Chico High group most requested to perform at events on campus and throughout the community. Their Barbershop stylings, along with their dynamic personalities, create a very entertaining combination. Singing Valentines and Birthday Grams are two of Sac Street's big events.

chic

Chic is the premier treble group at Chico High. They perform songs from The Andrews Sisters to modern pop. Singing Valentines and Birthday Grams are two of Chic's big events. Last year Sac St and Chic delivered over 200 singing Valentine Grams at CHS in one day!

Madrigals

Madrigals is our contemporary a cappella group, which sings anything from jazz to pop to folk. This year, Madrigals is hoping to compete in some a cappella festivals all over the West Coast!

A cappella choir

The A Cappella Choir is the premier large ensemble at Chico High School. Students must pass a rigorous audition to be accepted, our choral music ranges from the Renaissance to 21st century compositions. The A Cappella Choir travels every two years.

mixed chorus

Mixed Chorus is open to anyone in any grade, no prior experience necessary! Students will learn basic music theory, solfege, sight-singing, vocal technique and performance practices. After one year of Mixed Chorus students are eligible to audition for A Cappella Choir and small groups.

victorian dinner leads

This group our Leads in our Victorian Dinner in December! This new event will be a dinner comedy with music and acting and lots of hilarious hijinx. We are so excited to add this to our list of wonderful performances. Students must be enrolled in A Cappella Choir to participate.

victorian dinner

This December 2021, the Chico High School Choirs will be hosting their Fourth Annual Victorian Dinner. When we began in 2017, the Chico community had never seen an event quite like this. Dear friend to Choral Music Deborah Divine suggested to Mrs. Coon at a CMEA Choir Festival that we use a script she had written, and we never looked back! The production features an original comedy in a Victorian manor house setting with traditional caroling in authentic and beautiful Victorian Costumes, and a 4-course meal. Last year, our first year, we sold out 3 performances each with 600 total people in attendance. The students received rave reviews, and Chico community members are waiting for the tickets to go on sale for this year's show even now. There will be approximately 90 Chico High Students performing, and we anticipate selling 800 tickets. Tickets for this year's Victorian Dinner available on a first-come, first-served basis at https://chicohighchoir.ludus.com
