Arrive early for your program, with enough time to have all set-up complete before participants arrive. The start time of class or camp should be when instruction starts.
Please give an overall introduction about what will be covered in class or camp at the first meeting. This is an excellent opportunity to explain why you are teaching your program, the experience you have and answer any questions participants or parents may have.
Parent/participant contact information is listed on your roster. You must have a copy of your roster at every program meeting.
HERE are instructions on how to pull your own roster.
It is your responsibility to be certain everyone attending the programs has registered. This may require you taking attendance the first 2-3 program sessions. People who have not signed registered for your program are NOT allowed to attend. This is a liability risk for you as well as for CARD.
NO EXCEPTIONS or MODIFICATIONS!
For youth programs, please make sure you pay close attention during drop-off and pick-up time. For camps, only the people listed on the Emergency Contact Form are allowed to pick-up the participant. Parents/guardians should fill out the Emergency Contact Form on the first day of camp. You may not leave until all participants have been picked up.
If you are running a youth program or camp, you are required to have parents sign their children in and out of camp each day. During sign out you are required to check photo ID's of adults picking up youth participants. You will be provided with a sign in/sign out sheet at the start of the week. This procedure is followed by all camps and ensures the safety of the children attending our camps and provides accountability for our staff and instructors.
If a youth participant will be walking or riding a bike, skateboard, etc. from you program and not being picked up by a parent/guardian, the parent/guardian must fill out a "Walk/Ride home form" and turn it in to you on the first day of program. Keep these forms in your binder and bring them to every program session.
Some programs will allow parents/guardians to drop participants off and come back to pick participants up. If you have a participant that has not been picked up within 10 minutes after class, the emergency number listed on their form should be contacted. If no one can be reached, contact the Recreation Supervisor. At that time, the Recreation Supervisor will come to the class location and handle the situation. YOU MAY NOT TRANSPORT ANY PARTICIPANTS.
Instructors are expected to conduct all classes as scheduled, except in cases of illness or emergency. To minimize confusion for the CARD office and participants, please follow these steps if you need to cancel a class:
Notify the Recreation Supervisor as soon as possible.
Indicate whether you plan to offer a makeup class or if a refund/credit should be issued.
CARD will notify all participants of the cancellation.
