Parents expect staff to provide quality care for their children while they are attending our programs. Staff’s first responsibility is the oversight and safety of the participants. If staff are using their personal cell phones, they cannot be providing the quality of care and supervision that is expected.
As the use of personal electronic equipment is distracting, it must be kept off during program hours. Use of personal cell phones, cameras, computers, etc. are strictly forbidden during work hours. This includes use of any social media. The only reason you should be using your cell phone is to contact Ben or another Coordinator in the event of a significant situation occurring.
Each site is issued a cell phone which is to be used for Camp business only. Phones are not intended for personal use by staff or participants. Children may not use the phone unless directly supervised by a CARD employee and use is for educational purposes or to contact a parent.
*Answer the camp cell phone “Thank you for calling (CAMP NAME...) this is (your name...).”
Each site is issued two-way radios that are for staff use only. Each radio costs about $300 and staff must protect and care for the equipment. Discussions on the radios are not private and can be heard by others. Therefore, staff should exercise discretion when using these devices. Refrain from relaying sensitive matters such as personnel or behavior issues to other staff. Children may not use the radios.
Site Aides will have a two-way radio while working at the main CARD camps. 1:1 Aides will not have a two-way radio, as they will typically be with or near a group. 1:1 Aides and their participants should never be so far away from camp groups that a leader is unable to communicate with them (eg, 1:1 Aides and their participants should never be down by the creek by themselves).
Photos and videos of program participants may only be taken on CARD issued devices and may not be stored on personal devices. Staff may not use personal cameras or cell phones to take pictures or videos of program participants. Staff may not share pictures or videos of program participants on social media.
