When I emigrated from the Dominican Republic to the U.S. I had no idea the opportunities I would run into. In high school, an after-school program for underprivileged kids brought computer science education into my life. Today, a college graduate with a degree in Computer Science, I am able to return the favor to my community by bringing that same education to underprivileged girls in the D.R. In this 5-week summer program, the girls learn how to make websites using HTML and CSS. They also learn how to be agents of change in their communities and are empowered to do so through this new skill. All this work is made possible by my parents Justo Peña y Mercedes Torrez, my dearest college friends and colleagues Isabel Gomez and Mikael Moise, the Universidad Nacional Evangélica in D.R., and of course our donors.
