Photographing nature is my form of studying mortality. The contrasts in color and brightness are meant to emphasize the balance between life and death. The warm flowers and leaves are a way to express vitality whereas the cool and dim backgrounds convey melancholy and lifelessness. Some of the images are stacked on top of each other (an example, Phases of Life) to indicate the life cycle. The seasons and weather are meant to work in tandem with each other. Autumn, the season of death, is filled with warm colors, often associated with life. Therefore, the leaves represent a form of life in death. These images, and, in addition, their names, are meant to fuse the aspects of life and death into one.
