Second Grade Student Expectations

As a second-grade teacher, I expect my students to:

🌟 Be Ready to Learn

• Come to school ready to learn and participate.

• Listen when the teacher or another student is speaking.

• Follow directions the first time they are given.

• Stay focused and make good use of learning time.

• Ask questions and seek help when needed.

• Try their best, even when the work is challenging.

📚 Take Responsibility for Learning

• Complete assignments with care and effort.

• Take pride in their work.

• Check their work before turning it in.

• Work independently when appropriate.

• Use strategies and resources before immediately asking an adult for help.

• Learn from mistakes and use feedback to improve.

🤝 Treat Others with Respect

• Use kind, respectful words and actions.

• Listen to and respect the ideas of others.

• Take turns and share materials.

• Include others and be a good classmate.

• Solve disagreements appropriately and ask for help when needed.

• Keep hands, feet, and objects to themselves.

🧠 Build Independence

• Take care of personal belongings and classroom materials.

• Know classroom routines and follow them consistently.

• Transition between activities efficiently.

• Be responsible for remembering materials, assignments, and routines.

• Try to solve problems independently before seeking adult assistance.

• Make responsible choices even when an adult is not directly supervising.

📝 Develop Strong Work Habits

• Keep their workspace and materials organized.

• Write neatly and do their best-quality work.

• Complete work within the expected time.

• Stay on task during independent and group work.

• Participate appropriately in whole-group, partner, and small-group activities.

• Show kindness, empathy, and good manners.

• Celebrate the success of others.
