Science, Sports, and Outdoors
For all you explorers, come join our programs that look at our natural world through the lens of science and exploring. These classes will provide fun science based explorations that will add to your child's summer experience!!!
Grade 1-3: Do hummingbirds really hum? Are frogs able to climb up windows? We’ll discover the answers to these questions, as well as grow our own apple tree, and learn how to make our own gemstones. Not only will we learn about very small creatures, insects, but also very large ones, whales. We will have games, creative arts, and hands-on experiences in order to learn about how we can help maintain and improve our natural environment.
Grades 2-4: Want to make eggs fly? How about water rockets? Young scientists will create and experiment with interesting materials and computers. We’ll investigate electromagnetism, sound, motion, chemistry, and things that are ALIVE. Many students have to come back twice for more of this awesome class!
Hands on STEM
Sessions B Only
Grades 2-4: “Hand-On STEM” will engage participants in a variety of activities that require them to design, build, and solve problems, both individually and with partners. Projects will involve Air (Paper Straw Rockets), Land (Wall Marble Maze), Sea (Tin Foil Boats), Structural Integrity (Marshmallow Dome Challenge), and much more!
Grades 4-6: Students will explore the engineering process with real-life application problems. Through collaboration and creative problem-solving strategies, students will build and design structures. They will participate in a “Robotics Challenge” where they will have the opportunity to build their own robots.
Grades 1-3: Join in the fun by participating in sports and team-building activities that promote physical activity and team work. Activities will include traditional games such as soccer, basketball, tag, and wiffle ball, as well as non-traditional versions of common sports and games. Students will also play non-traditional games such as scooter games and fast paced tag games geared for improving agility. This course will incorporate team building activities that will include problem solving, in which children work together to build trust in one another. Students will work in various cooperative groups. Wear your sneakers and come ready for fun. This class will take place inside and outside.
Grades 3-5: Students will extend their learning from the school year with reviewing and applying the engineering process through design thinking, problem solving and Stem. Learning also takes place through research & application. Application happens through building and presenting, where oral speaking and listening skills are discussed, practiced and developed. During this summer session, students will have an opportunity to use their imagination to design and build a variety of objects reflected of the 2024 Paris Summer Olympic Events such as; Archery, Golf, Sailing & Skateboarding. When it comes to STEM challenges success doesn’t always look like a completed build. Success may be learning what doesn't work. We want students to have a productive struggle when they are building. Learning what doesn't work can be just as valuable as learning what does. After testing & presenting, students will take their creations home.
