Free Application for Federal Student Aid
A grant is a form of financial aid that doesn’t have to be repaid. A variety of federal grants are available, including Pell Grants, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (FSEOG), Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grants, and Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grants.
When you receive a student loan, you are borrowing money to attend a college or career school. You must repay the loan as well as interest that accrues. It is important to understand your repayment options so you can successfully repay your loan.
The Federal Work-Study Program allows you to earn money to pay for school by working part-time.
The 2026-27 FAFSA application will open October 1st!
In order to receive financial aid from the federal government you must fill out a FAFSA!
Prepare now so you can complete the 2026–27 FAFSA form as soon as it’s available.
Here are some ways you can get ready:
Create a StudentAid.gov account (if you don’t already have one).
Learn about the documents you may need to fill out the FAFSA form.
Determine your dependency status and whether your parent(s) or spouse will be required to contribute information on your FAFSA form.
If you’re a dependent student, use the Who’s My FAFSA Parent? wizard to identify which parent(s) will be a required contributor on your form.
Parents & Students will both need to create an FSA ID.
The FSA ID allows students and parents to identify themselves electronically to access Federal Student Aid websites. An FSA ID is made up of a username and password and can be used to log into the online FAFSA form.
Students & Parents will need their Social Security number to create their FSA ID.
Parents and students will use their FSA ID to electronically sign the FAFSA.
Colleges uses your FAFSA data to determine your federal aid eligibility.
Many states and colleges use FAFSA data to award their own aid and require that information to create your college financial aid award package.
Many Scholarship platforms require that you upload your Expected Family Contribution (EFC) documentation from the FAFSA.
A completed FAFSA is a requirement to receive the Michigan Community College Guarantee!
FAFSA completion is a Chesaning Union Schools graduation requirement.
Please Note !
Eligibility for federal student aid does not carry over from one award year to the next!
Students need to fill out the FAFSA form for each award year in which they are or plan to be a student.
