In my classroom, and here at Dakota Valley, we strive to honor a balance between intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development of students. I know how important down time, family time, and time for hobbies and activities is to the development of children. The children in my classroom each day are not just students, but whole people with many interests, talents, and needs. Current research shows that there is no correlation between homework and school success at the elementary level. For these reasons, there will be no whole class homework assigned. I do continue to expect and encourage regular reading outside of school to promote the development of literacy skills. Below, you will also find links to websites that you might choose to have your child work on at home if you would like additional practice opportunities.

Reading Challenges
Winter Book Bingo Challenge:
The back of the page is numbered to match the numbered boxes on the front. Titles and authors should be recorded on the back for the corresponding box.
Books should be at an appropriate reading level. This will vary depending on the type of book and the activity (for example, reading to someone younger than you will likely be a simpler book than you might read to yourself.)
A book can count for ONE black box AND ONE pink box, but not more.
One raffle ticket/Bingo - drawing will happen on Friday, October 10.
20 Book Punch Card
One book = One punch
Two graphic novels = One punch
Student must sign up for a book talk when they finish the book, and must have the book with them, to get a hole punch.
5 hole punches earns them a piece of candy and a raffle ticket for our monthly prize drawing
20 hole punches earns them a special lunch with me!
