Value-rich
Just as our students’ academic experience will be heightened in our GT program, so will their understanding and development of our school’s values. As academic leaders in our learning community, participants in the GT program will be expected to be values leaders, too. We expect our GT students to strongly exemplify our school traits — Respect, Humility, Leadership, Compassion, Responsibility, Diligence, Loyalty, and Integrity.
Value-rich expectations will permeate the classroom as well. Regardless of advanced academic stature or excellent standardized test results, all students in the program must demonstrate a proven track record of contributing toward the "academically rigorous public charter school" culture of CCA. Students with long-term habits of classroom disruption, tardiness, or absenteeism will need to, over an entire quarter, demonstrate consistent improvement in these areas in their regular classes before being considered for GT classes.
These classes will be Socratic, with frequent discussion and group investigation of content. We will investigate not only the ‘What’ of learning, but also the ‘Why’ and ‘How.’ We’ll consistently explore how and why character matters.
Project-based
Students will created projects within guidelines collaboratively established by the student, parent, and teacher. This will allow them to deeply explore topics. As a culmination of their year’s work, students work will be featured on Student Spotlight Night.
