Lifelong Learning

For autonomous learners, “the motivation comes from within, they internalize skills, and passion learning is their driving force.” This quote is from George T. Betts, the originator of the Autonomous Learner Model. Our program will be adopting this framework. It was initially suggested by CCSD’s Director of Advanced Academic & Gifted Services during a discussion of CCA’s vision of GT. Autonomous learning is as focused on the ‘Why’ and ‘How’ as on the ‘What,’ ‘When,’ and ‘Who’ of learning.

By fully integrating the whole person into the learning experience, the Autonomous Learner model creates a network of intellectual and emotional habits that fosters a lifetime of inquiry, analysis, and creativity. Decades from now, students involved in our GT program will be able to look back on the experience and consider it foundational to their sense of curiosity and problem-solving.
